Fruits & Votes is the Web-log of Matthew S. Shugart ("MSS"), Professor of Political Science, University of California, Davis.
Perspectives on electoral systems, constitutional design, and policy around the world, based primarily on my research interests. Also experiences with growing many varieties of fruit (always organic) and other personal interests. Please see the Mission Statement for more. (There is also an explanation of the banner.) Planted in: Judaism Tonight is the new moon closest to the autumnal equinox. Here’s wishing everyone a sweet and fruitful 5768! And not just any year will it be. 5768 is divisible by 7, as all my quant-minded readers will recognize. Thus it will be shemitah. That law is not binding on Ladera Frutal. Nonetheless, some of the land at Ladera Frutal is going to get an indefinite Shabbat.
