Perspectives on electoral systems, constitutional design, and policy around the world, based primarily on my research interests. Planted in: Japan Two years and a day after his mentor, Junichiro Koizumi, scored the ruling LDP’s smashing electoral success, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has announced he will step down. The writing was on the wall for this when Abe led his party to its worst ever defeat (in an upper house election) earlier this summer. Abe is no Koizumi.
