Two years and a day after his mentor, Junichiro Koizumi, scored the ruling LDP’s smashing electoral success, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has announced he will step down. The writing was on the wall for this when Abe led his party to its worst ever defeat (in an upper house election) earlier this summer.
Abe is no Koizumi.

And neither is Aso, the most likely to be come the next PM. For a year or so at least. We will see who will run for LDP presidency. In this regard this news item could become really interesting:
