Wow. I never knew golf could be so exciting.
But how could there not have been a contract to carry a possible playoff on TV? After being on NBC over the weekend, the first several holes of today’s US Open playoff were on ESPN. And the rest was on… nowhere on TV.1 I am sure I was not the only one who scrambled to get an espn360 account working. It was worth the scramble.
I was not sure whom to root for. The “45-year-old with a creaky back” resonated with me. But so did Woods, with the recent knee surgery. But if ever there was a sporting event in which no clear rooting interest was necessary to enjoy it–no, be enthralled by it–this was it.
(Uh oh, that first link was AP (via ESPN). I sure hope I did not quote too much.)

The back 9 was carried on NBC. Don’t tell me that the local San Diego affiliate didn’t carry it!
BTW, I didn’t know you followed golf.
(And I certainly didn’t get much work done today!)
BTW–the power went out at my house right as they were teeing off for the sudden death hole. Luckily it came back a few minutes later and I only missed a couple of strokes. Still, I wasn’t please.

Well, if they did, I would not know. As soon as it went off ESPN, I started looking for the ESPN360 account. (It was not easy to get it working.)
I saw the note on the ESPN crawl about ESPN360, but nothing about NBC. They are rivals, but one might have expected a referral, given that they were sharing coverage of the event.
I can’t imagine that the local affiliate would not have run it if it was on nationally!
Oh, well, having it here on the computer screen made it marginally less distracting from other important tasks (like reading PoliBlog!) than had I needed to crane my neck and turn my chair to see the TV. Of course, the net cost in future distraction now that the ESPN360 software is installed could prove higher…

They did mention the NBC jump, but only once. Indeed, they were even using NBC mics for the sideline (so to speak) reporting.
You’re lucky you could get ESPN360 to work, as some cable companies (like mine, Charter) block it.
And yes, anything that enhances the reading of PoliBlog is a good thing!
