Fruits & Votes is the Web-log of Matthew S. Shugart ("MSS"), Professor of Political Science, University of California, Davis.
Perspectives on electoral systems, constitutional design, and policy around the world, based primarily on my research interests. Also experiences with growing many varieties of fruit (always organic) and other personal interests. Please see the Mission Statement for more. (There is also an explanation of the banner.) Planted in: Travel Let’s start the year of 2012 on Pope Gregory’s calendar with the amazing Alhambra.  I had wanted to visit this place since I was a child. I think my mother must have had a book about it that impressed me.  You know how you might dream of something for much of your life, and then you finally experience it, and it disappoints?  This was not one of those times. The Alhambra was everything I had ever imagined. And so much more.
