A state legislative Assembly committee has approved a bill, 6-0, to make California’s presidential primary the first in the nation. New Hampshire politicos are none too thrilled, and they note that state law requires their primary to be seven days ahead of any other.

Primary season is so fascinating. But, frankly, I’d rather the primaries start in a large, populous, diverse state (like California) than either New Hampshire or Iowa.
I also wonder if this would help the Democrats. Since I think New England primary pushes candidates who have smaller chances in other parts of the country (e.g. the South). Similarly, I think a California primary could help push the Republicans towards the moderate center. Just a thought.
